As the 2018 elections approach, we have reached a critical moment in the national struggle against gerrymandering and voter suppression.
On April 10, Team4NC, in partnership with the NYU School of Law chapter of the American Constitution Society, will host a panel discussion to explore strategies for moving forward in the fight for voting rights and fair elections.
Confirmed panelists so far:
-Irving Joyner, Professor of Law at North Carolina Central University and the Legal Counsel and Chairperson of the Legal Redress Committee of the North Carolina State Branches of the NAACP
-David Daley, Senior Fellow at FairVote, former Editor-in-Chief of Salon, and the author of the national bestseller Ratf**ked, The True Story Behind the Secret Plan to Steal America’s Democracy
-Kareem Crayton, an influential scholar specializing in the relationship between race and politics in representative institutions, and Executive Director of the Southern Coalition for Social Justice – an organization which has helped drive the fight for voting rights and fair elections in North Carolina.
Join us to discuss the latest political developments and the status of the key court cases. What can we learn from the experience of advocates in states like North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Washington? How have gerrymandering and voter suppression impacted communities of color in particular? How can we take the initiative nationally not merely to defend, but to expand our democracy?
The panel will take place at NYU's Vanderbilt Hall - 40 Washington Square South, Room 220.
FREE for students. $20 general public - all funds raised will benefit the North Carolina NAACP.
